LIFE - SUCCESS, FAILURE, OR JUST BLAH… YOU CHOOSE

by Mario C.Veo

One of my deepest investigations has been on ‘Power and Self-Empowerment’… and conversely Who and What takes it all away. In my time as a Spiritual Counselor, I have met many great and wonderful people who have been totally oblivious of their gifts and abilities, and are blindly choosing to live a very mediocre Life… and what really pushes my buttons is when I see them being manipulated into submission, to meekly accept that ‘this’ is really the best that they can achieve, that this blah life is all they deserve… I see this everywhere – the way some managers speak to their employees, petty politicians and their empty promises – while really pandering to special interests, the still active prejudice between races / religious beliefs /  gender status, the petty use of News to slander / offend / belittle, the blind dismissal of western doctors to even the most valuable of complementary medicines…
Everywhere people are bombarded by misinformation-touted-as-Truth, they are browbeaten by bullies, incited to resist even the most beneficial of changes by hidden special interest groups, are being fooled by propaganda couched as righteous zeal… and – worst of all – it even happens in personal relationships. Disempowerment is easy to achieve:- all you have to do is hurt / offend / belittle someone often enough until they break… or praise and kiss their a** until they are too full of themselves, and now will be your puppet, addicted to their own inflated Ego.
Yes, it really is that easy to manipulate someone… the difficult part starts when you try to heal them, to free them from these offensive chains, to awaken them to their own true self… especially when their self-image is too confused to recognize all of their good qualities… And that is exactly where we all are in our current political chaos – we live in a time of Conflict and Revelation… all that is wrong / dark / corrupt… all that is fueled by greed / fear / violence / exploitation… all will be revealed so that it can be cleansed and healed, so that once again harmony, balance, respect, and appreciation may rule.
And here’s the Key – it all starts within you… Once you realize that you have to live as Truth, behave honorably, claim joyful and loving relationships… then all in your Life will change to reflect the Change that you have become… and if we all do this, then society will change, and these negative forces will no longer be dominant.
As many wise ones have said:  “Be the change you want to see in the world” So how do we achieve all this, how do we start…? Easy – stop pandering to the external influences, take stock of who you are, and what would make you happy / fulfilled / successful, disengage from people and situations that have hurt or belittled you, feed you inner gifts and abilities, and use these to guide your Life to success…
Yes, it is that simple… but it is a choice, and you have to want it…

MIRACLES AND MANIFESTATION THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter June 2018

by Bob Romero

Most of us have had someone who inspired us to pursue our goals and dreams, whether it was a relative, a teacher, a coach, or a boss. For me, it was my Algebra teacher, who took me aside after the first semester, and asked me to meet him after school. He saw the enthusiasm and skill that I had for mathematics. He said that he didn’t want me to be held back by the rest of the class, and that we could meet 30 minutes each day after school. That way, I could make sure that I finished the textbook by the end of the year. His inspiration gave me the confidence to pursue a career in mathematics and overcome any obstacles or discouragement by other teachers or other individuals. My brother who taught school for 35 years, once showed me shoeboxes full of letters from former students, thanking him for making a difference in their lives.
There are also those who try to use a negative approach to get us to do what they want us to do.  My pastor said in one of his homilies, that maybe we spend too much time on correction versus encouragement. I think that sometimes priests and ministers focus too much on avoiding eternal damnation, versus finding the joy of heaven. I had a director and a supervisor who had different management styles. The director, who always complimented us whenever we did good work, was considered a mentor. She still had high levels of expectations, but we were happy to go above and beyond them for her. The supervisor on the other hand, was mean, and severely reprimanded anyone who didn’t produce the work exactly as she wanted. We referred to her as the tormentor. Most employees would not do anything above the minimum level of what she wanted.
The people, who encourage us, don’t do so for their own self-interest, or their own ego. They do so, because they feel that it is the right thing to do. They motivate us to have the desire necessary for us to rise to a mush higher level of achievement than we ever thought possible. If we take a step back, and look at what we were before the encouragement, compared to afterwards, it would seem like a miracle. Yet they are not the ones who performed the miracle, we did. They got us to go deep within ourselves to produce fantastic results.
Now lets take this notion to a higher level, a higher level of consciousness, if you will. There are lots and lots and lots of books at the Shining Lotus on self-improvement, and state that the answers we seek, are within us. And there are teachers at the Shining Lotus, who teach us on how to go inside of ourselves, and manifest miraculous healing and riches, which are way beyond our wildest dreams. The only limits are the limits that we place on ourselves. They teach us different metaphysical techniques that not only get us to produce health and abundance, but also help us on our spiritual path. These methods are only for the highest good, truth, wisdom, and light. The teachers have all of this wonderful knowledge and are more than willing to share it with us. Their encouragement will help us lift ourselves much closer to Spirit, and make this world a much better place. If enough of us take advantage of these wonderful opportunities, then the lyrics in the song “Crystal Blue Persuasion“ by Tommy James and the Shondells will come true.
Look over yonder, what do you see? The sun is a’rising most definitely
A new day is coming, ooh, ooh, people are changing
Ain’t it beautiful, ooh, ooh, Crystal blue persuasion
Better get ready to see the light, Love, love is the answer, ooh, ooh
And that’s all right.
Tommy James & The Shondells
So don’t you give up now, ooh, ooh, so easy to find
Just look to your soul and open your mind
Crystal blue persuasion, mmm, mmm it’s a new vibration
Crystal blue persuasion, Crystal blue persuasion
Maybe tomorrow when he looks down
On every green field, ooh, ooh and every town
All of his children and every nation
They’ll be peace and good brotherhood
Crystal blue persuasion, yeah… Crystal blue persuasion, aha…
Crystal blue persuasion, aha… Crystal blue persuasion, aha…
See you in class.

THE OTHER TALE OF THE UGLY DUCKLING... REVISITED

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter June 2018

by Mario C. Veo

It all started in a small town, one just like many others, where neighbor knows neighbor, prices are fair, and all are good, law abiding people … for they all know their place. In such a town was born young Thomas, apparently a well adjusted child, over all well behaved even if a little too curious, asking too many questions… and even daring to pester the local pastor with questions that no young boy had the right to ask… [and if his father was a touch too strict, and at times had to spank the boy… well, it was for his own good now, wasn’t it… after all, if the boy was not quite so boisterous then he wouldn’t need to be punished, now would he ?!]
And so in this idyllic little town the young boy grew up into a young man, and gave up his sassiness, learned how to be respectful of his wiser elders, learnt his place, he did. “Smart”, many said “and even handsome” others murmured… “So, let’s make him a deal… Let’s offer him a position in our Bank… after all, he’s one of us, and we need a ‘good’ manager
And so the elders approached young Thomas with what was obviously a sweet deal, “Tommy-boy you look well… Certainly grew up out of your rambunctious nature… Have come to appreciate the good life we all have here… Want you to take your place in our community… Make us proud of you, now
They all talked at once, so overwhelming they were that ‘Tommy-boy’ agreed without really knowing what it was all about… The following Monday he found himself bright and early being ushered into his new office [dressed in his best collar and tie, he did… and he so impressed everyone, that the elders all congratulated themselves on their good judgment… and even the young female tellers spruced themselves up, and shyly introduced themselves]
And so young Thomas-Thom-Tommy-boy found himself having to learn what the bank was all about… and what better way then to review past transactions… y’know, who lent money to whom, who defaulted on their payments, who lost their land… who bought them out at a profit… y’know, just normal bank business. Well now, young Thomas considered himself a man of integrity, a man who really wanted to live the good and proper life of a God-fearing man… so he studied deeper… and deeper… and found that only a few families were allowed to grow rich and prosperous, only a few families ruled the town, only a few families were untouched by grief and famine…and look’it here, they owned the bank… and yes, they were the wise elders… interesting…
So now, what’s a young man to do… was he certain of his findings… or was he just seeing coincidences where no fault truly lies… did he really think that he, in his ever so short a career, had enough information to even know what he was looking at, and – the greatest of all questions – was it really his place to do anything about it.
And so young Thomas-Thom-Tommy-boy sat for many a day, ruminating, thinking, considering his options… and even looking back to his youth, at the times when he was so certain that he dared question…. The day came for the quarterly report, and he decided that he would simply present the information, and ask for clarity… and… see what would happen…. This time the meeting was not held in the bank’s conference room…no, apparently this was a special occasion, and so it was to be held in the wealthiest mansion in town, and for a proper dinner too…
So, dressed in his best attire, the young man presented himself at the proper time… and was greeted by the daughters of the elders… who quite demurely led him into the parlor, where, chaperoned by their mothers, proceeded to ask him his opinion on family, and marriage, and children… and if he thought that he would be a good provider… and asked if his position in the bank would be enough… or if he would consider investing in some properties that may come available…
The girls were all quite pretty, and well mannered too… they knew just how to treat a man, a man who had so much potential, so much to offer to a proper wife… his whole life opened before him… riches and respect in the community… or… who knows what… and at that point he knew exactly what the right thing to do was… “May I introduce you to our new mayor, the Honorable Thomas Truss, and his lovely wife, Grace…”

TWO GYMNASIUMS

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter May 2018

by Bob Romero

Scott Gym – In April 2014, I was in Trinidad Colorado to give the acceptance speech at a banquet in Scott Gymnasium, for my father’s induction into the Trinidad State Junior College Educational Foundation Hall of Fame, almost 27 years after he had passed away. My dad had worked at the college for 36 years. While my father did not go to church often, I thought that he followed the principles of Jesus Christ more than anyone else I knew, through his extraordinary acts of kindness. Now more than 30 years later, I’m still hearing stories about what he did for people, although he never mentioned them to me.
When he died, my family started a scholarship in his name at TSJC. We were able to raise enough money so that with the interest made on the contributions, there was enough to pay for tuition for a qualified student for a year. Then the foundation got a matching National Education Association grant for a total of a million dollars, and then quadrupled that total, due to very wise investments. Now there are over 80 scholarships offered annually, some of which like my father’s, offer full tuition.
Over the years, my father did everything from putting the roof on the administration building, installing new hardwood gym floors, mowing the lawns, shoveling sidewalks, firing up boilers to warm classrooms, being security for football and basketball games, painting classrooms, and cleaning classrooms and offices. So how was I able to get someone from the maintenance crew into the Educational Hall of Fame? I cheated, or at least I felt like I did. I used the eulogy that Roy Boyd gave at his funeral. Mr. Boyd was the Business Manager and Vice President of Buildings and Grounds, and a founding member of the TSJC Educational Foundation. He was also acting president for a year, and most importantly, he was my dad’s best friend. The eulogy that he gave was so inspiring, that we asked him for a copy. He talked about how he would lend my father to schools and businesses to teach their employees, or help them solve a custodial problem. He also mentioned how dependable my dad was, and was a real Rock of Gibraltar, and that the employees mispronounced his name as “Fiddle”, instead of Fidel, as an easy shorthand expression of love. Mr. Boyd would sometimes catch my dad giving a pep talk to discouraged students. Mr. Boyd had recently passed away, but I figured how could the board go against the wishes of a founding member.
In my letter for dad’s nomination to the board, I relayed the story of when the head football coach died of a heart attack, my dad would get up an hour earlier every morning, to start a fire in the furnace in the basement of the coach’s home. That way the house would be nice and warm when the children got ready for school. In the 40’s, coal furnaces were used to heat homes by starting a fire with paper and wood, and then putting coal on the fire in order to last through the day, or through the night. The only way I found out about this was because one the children came back 40 years later, to thank my dad, and to work in the hospital as a nurse. She was there in the hospital to help him during his last days.
The secretary for many of the college’s presidents also submitted a letter of support. She stated that there was a poor young student who commuted 70 miles every day from Kim, Colorado to Trinidad. My dad let him stay in the gym overnight because of severe snowstorms. My dad also helped him with money for food. Twenty years later that student came back as president of the junior college, and he made sure that everyone knew what dad had done for him.
I was somewhat nervous about giving the acceptance speech, because unlike giving a technical paper, this was very emotional for me, and I would not be able to finish the speech during my rehearsals. As I sat there at the banquet table, and looked around the gym, a ton of memories flooded my brain. I loved being in that gym from the time that I was little, to the time I left Trinidad. I watched many great high school and college basketball games there. My dad would sometimes let me in the gym to practice my shooting and dribbling skills. And like every young basketball player, I would visualize sinking the winning basket. I saw my future brother-in-law, and then my brother, box there as a fundraiser for the high school. I saw Spencer Haywood play basketball for the college, before going on to an NBA hall of fame career. And I finally got to realize my dream of playing in the TSJC invitational basketball tournaments in both junior high and high school. While attending college there, I got to go to many student-sponsored convocations about current events, like hearing Dick Gregory the black comedian and activist, speak about civil rights and the Vietnam War. One of my favorite concerts in January 1970 was seeing Martha Reeves and the Vandellas perform to a packed gym, and belt out one of my all time favorite Motown hits, “Heat Wave”.
When I went to podium and began to speak, I noticed that the words flowed out smoothly. I had to do my best, because this was about my dad. I mentioned how important the college was to him as it was not just his job, but also his life. I talked about his dedication to the school, and how he also helped students. I went on about how many times after I moved to Denver, I would meet someone who attended TSJC and when I mentioned that I was the son of Fidel Romero, they would say, “Oh yeah, I know Fidel. How’s he doing?” He didn’t teach any classes, but he taught many students about life, including me. I continued on how both he and my mother didn’t have the opportunity to go to college, but they realized the importance of an education which they instilled in us, and that the school serves as a portal for the students to accomplish their dreams. The scholarship in his name continues his legacy of helping people, and especially students, because they are our future. When I sat down, and looked at the pictures of my dad flashing on a big screen, I realized that this was my most memorable moment in that gym, because this was all about my dad. I love you, Dad.
Sebastiani Gym – In November of 2016, I was in Trinidad for my mom’s funeral. There was an earthquake in 2011 that caused damage to Holy Trinity Church where my mom attended mass. A restoration project closed the church, and a makeshift church was created in the school gymnasium where I went to high school. Trinidad Catholic High School had been closed for several years, and so the Gym was available until the Church was restored. At first, I was disappointed that the Church wasn’t available, because my mom not only went to church there, but she would also light candles and spent a lot of time praying in the church.
I was asked by my family to give the eulogy, which I knew would be tough. As I sat in the folding chair waiting to speak, I looked around the gym and the memories poured in. This was a gym that I also loved being in, because I spent so many hours from sixth grade through twelfth grade practicing and playing basketball, and I enjoyed every minute. There were the high school dances, church bazaars, spaghetti dinners, and high school graduation. There was a concert that I especially remembered in April 1970, which featured Glen Yarbrough as he sang one my favorite folk songs from the 60’s, “Baby the Rain Must Fall”. He made fun of the smallness of Trinidad by saying that he went to “the” library and checked out “the” book.
When I went to the pulpit and began to speak, I noticed that the words flowed out smoothly. I had to do my best, because this was about my mom. The following two paragraphs are parts from the eulogy in which I described what an amazing woman she was.
Her father passed away when she was 8. Because of that, she did backbreaking work in the beet fields as a child along with her older brother, in the late 1920’s, and in the early 1930’s, to help support the family. This was during the Great Depression and at that time, there was no government help.  Somehow she and her family survived. That toughness would define her life. She lost her husband in the war, and had become a widow with three children when she was 27. She was devoted to her kids, and she provided the love and discipline necessary to raise them with good morals and ethics. Several years later, she met my dad and I became the “ours” of “yours, mine, and ours” as dad was a widower with three kids. I was the baby of both families, and the little half brother to all of them, although I never heard the word, “half”. My mother and father greatly loved and respected each other, as she thought that he was kindest, gentlest, and nicest man that she had ever met, and he worshiped the ground that she walked on.
She had a very strong will. She gave up smoking by putting a pack of cigarettes on the windowsill and each day she would tell it, “You don’t boss me!” It took two weeks. When my dad died, she bought a car and taught herself to drive. She lived in her house by herself for many years, and was never afraid. When we would go out to eat or go downtown or go to Wal-Mart, we would always meet someone who knew her. They would hug her and many times they would tell me “I just love your mother”. Her friend of 93 years, Lena, came to visit mom in the nursing home. Mom was 99, and Lena was 100, and so they both couldn’t hear very well, even with hearing aids. So Lena’s son and I used whiteboards so that they could communicate. Mom wrote, “You are my best friend.” And Lena wrote back, “I love you Lucy”.  Mom used to say that she was not a very social person, but the fact of the matter was, that she was the life of the party. She took it upon herself to entertain everyone. When I pushed her in her wheelchair down the halls, many of the staff and residents would say “Hi Lucy!”  grab her hand, or touch her shoulder. When someone went by, without acknowledging her, mom would tell me in Spanish that some people are friendly, and some are not. Then she would tell me something else in Spanish, which I was glad that it was in Spanish, so that no one knew what she was saying. She had her little sayings that she said a lot, but she still made us laugh every time. Some of the sayings were in Spanish, and there are some that I can’t say in Church. When mom went into hospice care, I could not believe the number of people that came by to see her besides family. There were quite a few residents and a lot of the staff. Many of them were not directly involved in mom’s care, but they all knew her. They asked me if they could come in and see mom and tell her goodbye. People, who were total strangers just a few months earlier, cried with me and told mom that they loved her.
When I sat down, I realized that this was my most memorable moment in that gym, because this was all about my mom. I love you, Mom. Even though she was feisty, and quite a character, the reason so many people loved my mom, is because she took a genuine interest in people, and made them feel special about themselves. You could hear it in the glee in her voice, and see it in the smile on her face, when she greeted people that she knew.
It was not a coincidence, or even a twist of fate, that these two events took place in the two gymnasiums that I cherished so much, growing up in Trinidad. It was instead, a very special gift from Spirit, that I was able to give homage to the two people that influenced me the most, in my two most favorite venues in Trinidad. My mom and dad taught me how to treat people, not just by what they said, but also by their example.

A TALE OF GODS AND GODDESSES

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter May 2018

by Mario C. Veo

This happened so long ago that we – the poor shadows that survived – no longer have true knowledge, but have buried its truth behind distorted myths and legends… but beware, reader, what you’re about to hear is indeed Truth… It was a great time, when the Gods walked among men and blessed them with great Powers… life was filled with marvels and wonder.
Many were those favored by the Gods… No, not as servants but simple acolytes – they did ‘serve’ but as followers, as people who have chosen the Path blessed by their patron Gods – they were the warriors, mighty in battle, or great artisans, who forged powerful weapons, and others – of a more gentle nature – became healers, or harvested the bounty of Nature; some even worked with new-found ideas, crazy inventors and philosophers who argued about such little things that would make your poor head turn… but that’s what ale was for… so you could always retire to be among the story-tellers, and enjoy many a fantastic tale of valor while quenching your thirst… and if a God or Goddess would wonder by, then the tales they would tell would leave you starry-eyed, and longing for closer union.
And such a union was granted to those who were deemed worthy… special people who sought to be as close to the Gods as possible – those who learned how to rule over the Elements called themselves magicians, others who simply wanted to sit at the feet of Higher Beings preferred to call themselves mystics… and still more desired to know the greatest of mysteries – the ones of Creation and Dissolution – of rendering the Veil cast by Death, seeking even those Knowledges which have been forbidden… they called themselves sorcerers… and because of their arrogance  Darkness began to creep into our world…
But it was our own foolishness which opened the door to the Great Downfall … too late we learned that ‘Power corrupts’… few truly understood that ‘With great Power comes great responsibilities’, preferring to believe that ‘Power’ meant that they were better than others, that they could – indeed they thought it was their ‘Right’ – to rule over others… You see, they foolishly thought they were better than the rest of us…
And so it started… what was once a Utopian land soon became fraught with dissent, Man thought to enslave others, even as this spurred resistance and even revolt… as Power fought against Power , destruction gleefully followed, and despair filled the hearts of peaceful men… So, as any good follower would, they asked their patron Gods for help, for aid and relief  from such barbaric, power-mad individuals [we could no longer even bear to call them ‘men’ for they were no longer human…]
And what is a good God to do, but respond to the cries of his followers… and so Mother Earth revolted, casting fires of destruction… mighty winds tore up whole civilizations, thunder flared again and again trying to smite these unnatural beings… but, alas, they had their own Gods… and so the fight spread…
Now God fought against God, mighty Goddesses enter the fray and with wrath in their hearts and fury in their eyes they rent apart even the last one alive … such a mighty battle… such foolish beginning … such pitiful ego of men who thought themselves ‘superior’… Ha ! where are your powers now… where is your wealth, your subterfuge, your entitled ego … See the Darkness you’ve invited into what once was Utopia… it’s waiting for you … all of you who sought to know the Great Mysteries, the Gateway is now open , greedily waiting to embrace such fools that thought naught of what they cast aside so readily … and for what …? Did you really think you were greater and better than the Gods … ?
And these Great Ones… where are they now… ? Disgusted by their own creations, they moved on… trying to figure out why this Gift, which they called Free Will, went so awry… Yes, they all went away, trying to once again make peace among themselves… and having learned Man’s lesson well, will now only create the simplest of Nature’s Forms… no longer ‘sentient’… just joyful Nature…
And that now leaves us… wretched shadows of what once was great, and pure, and glorious… no longer… just shadows of a broken Race… so pay attention, you who are reading this, and do not allow the vile to grow in your heart or land… hear this tale and pay heed, lest you too shall fall for others’ Ego… Your Duty is clear…

PSYCHIC DEVELOPMENT… CURSE OR BLESSING!?!

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter May 2018

by Mario C. Veo

There is a deep desire to develop… to grow and expand, to seek out more Knowledge, more Wisdom, to reveal the great mysteries, and finally understand what Life and Creation is all about. Do we have past lives… is there life after death… can we predict the future… and what about all those Psychic and even Magical Gifts… can we truly speak with Angels and Guides or be visited by great Ascended Masters… and my favorite question: “and why would they want to do that…” ? The simple answer to all this is a resounding Yes!
Yes, we can do all this… Yes, Life and Creation is a lot more wonderful – and complex – than we’ve ever thought it could be… Yes, there are many multiple dimension, many Celestial Beings… and, best of all, all those great Masters were just like you and I when they first started… So, hey, if they can do it, then so can we… all it takes is a true desire to grow and evolve… a commitment to the work … and a lot of safe instructions. For all that there is out there, there are many things that either lack the proper foundation [so they are weak at best, or downright dangerous]… or too often are made up junk, designed to use and abuse you… and ultimately cause your own destruction… Why would anyone do this…?
Easy – if you have the potential – and the real desire – to grow, expand your Consciousness, quicken your Spiritual Evolution, and aim to become a master… well then, you are a threat to the Dark Brotherhood … so it’s easiest to block you now before you become too knowledgeable. But don’t let all this worry you too much – you know what they say:- “If you make much noise you will attract much attention…” and not just from those that would oppose you, but also from those who will help, guide, and shelter you.
…there’s just one little thing, which – well – may actually turn out to be a little Big Thing… it’s called Free Will, specifically your Free Will… You have to decide – not only through your passion, determination and enthusiasm – but also through your careful examination and discretion – and choose the correct Path for you … as I’ve said, there’s a lot of junk info out there [Fake News indeed !!] So, look deep within you… find out why you would want to do this… and seek out the Lineage you truly belong to… What’s this, you say ?
Ok, basic Development 1-0-1 … if someone tells you to ‘meditate’ there are literally hundreds of different styles and techniques of Meditation… If you know which ones resonate best with you, then you progress quickly… if not you simply become more and more frustrated, negative, angry and even resentful.[and by the ones that are best for you I do not mean the ‘easiest’, rather the ones that truly have an effect on your Inner Light and Consciousness … and this could be ones that truly make you think, and not just offer ‘a glamorous phenomena’] So, now it’s all up to you [remember ‘Free Will’… use it consciously]… and good luck… Oh, if you should screw up, don’t worry too much, that’s what Karma is for… after all you have plenty of future incarnations to get it right … [joke, you really don’t have that much time left to get it right – we are in the Quickening, if you can tell…]

AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter April 2018

by Mario C. Veo

It started well past Spring when this little leaf decided to finally emerge, the last of the many. All others had long since grown to their full size, and now, adorned in bright colors, they tittered and twirled… and just plain ignored this new comer. No matter how much he tried, no matter how nice and polite he was, they just snubbed him… “Too little by far… Not one of us… A discard, just not good enough… Who does he think he is, trying to buddy up to his betters… Shame, I say, shame on him…” And so he sat, alone, rejected and dejected, with no-one to call friend… sigh
Seasons warmed, the Sun grew bright, the grass greener and all other leaves fatter and stronger, all clamoring together in a social cacophony, a togetherness that was not quite complete… for the little leaf had not grown, much, was still shunned, ignored and discarded… and now he sat, morosely staring into nothing, for nothing was expected of him… Oh, what a future to not contemplate…
… Days passed and seasons grew, until one day, late into summer, this new breeze came along, with scents from lands far away, and a most curious outlook on life. “Well, here’s another foreigner…” the other leaves all said “Why is he here … he’s not one of us … Don’t trust him, he smells funny …” and so they all turned their conceited back on him, denying him even the most common courtesies.
But the breeze didn’t care – he’d seen his share of bigots, of intolerant small-minds, and these were not even that good at their elitist arrogance… So he did what most mature beings would do – pay no attention to the foolish… and leave them to their own self-created corruption… But, as he was about to depart, he noticed the little leaf, sitting apart from this vile crowd… and something made him stop “Well, color me curious … here’s one who survived the madness
And so he approached, and took the time to introduce himself… and slowly, barely trusting, the little leaf responded… and the two began to talk, sharing ribald stories of his wild, foreign travels in return for a deeper insight in others’ folly… “Life is a great journey… you get to choose what to fill it with”. Day after day they met, sharing and bonding, growing closer and closer… until the final season was upon them. Already many leaves had started to fall, losing their bright colors in favor of browns and russets, covering the ground as a multi-colored carpet – a splash of blush against the graying skies.
… Still the little leaf hung on, desiring one more conversation with his intriguing friend… which he did, and now content, he readied himself to wait for his end.
Not wanting to follow others [for now he knew that he would never be like them – nor would he want to] and so he sat, all alone on the barren branch… still contemplating… nothing… As the fallen leaves grew brittle, crushed and broken by the harsh, cold winds, here came a little boy, looking for treasure – hoping to find at least one ‘pretty leaf’ to add to his collection.
With eyes downcast, all he saw was moldy pieces, unsightly and unpleasant to behold …everywhere ugliness… Disheartened  he turned to go until he heard a murmur, a sigh… he looked up and his eyes lit up with joy and expectation… There, perched all alone, was the most beautiful, perfect leaf he’d ever seen… radiantly dressed in autumn colors, still bright with life  “Will you come with me…” he asked, hoping…”You’re so beautiful, I can only ask if you join me and my collection… I promise to take good care of you…” Intrigued the little leaf stopped, and for a moment pondered about choices and futures… and without more thought, gently let go of the branch and lightly flitted into the boy’s hand…
And so began a most unusual journey… of show-and-tell… of sharing proudly with a little blonde girl… of being framed and shyly given as a birthday present… of  witnessing young love grow and blossom… of marriage and children born… of family dinners and togetherness… of truth, respect, and joy…
Here he is now, still in his glorious colors, framed and displayed in a special place, looking down at his family… finally knowing the meaning of a life well spent… sigh

SAVE YOURSELF, SAVE YOURSELF... THE SKY IS FALLING!

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter April 2018

by Mario C. Veo

It looks like everyday there is more bad news, new catastrophes, increased conflict / anger / derision / belittlement / senseless violence… until we are told that “The future looks bad… very bad…” So, what are we to do with all this? We cannot deny that “We live in interesting times” [as great Chinese Sages once said] … and that there’s more still to come … but, take it from me, it does get better.

So, what’s really going on? Any Healer out there will tell you about a ‘healing crisis’ – basically a process where the body is getting rid of all its toxins, all that nastiness that festered inside… and spews it all out. Yep, quite an uncomfortable process… but how else would you get rid of such corruption once it’s inside you? Now the body goes through aches and pains, some purging, and even awful headaches and metal confusion… it can get so bad that people have resorted to going back to assimilating more toxins in the desperate attempt to ease the pain… Foolish, all this does is recreate more pain, more aches, more spewing…
Now, some will turn to medication, to various drugs and alcohol in the futile attempt to ‘soften’ this passage… others will seek support groups, where they can share their pain and struggles with like-minded souls… Well, if you’ve ever tried to kick an addiction, or even go on a strict diet, you’ll know that it isn’t as easy as that. It’s not in the support that success lies, but in personal desire to want to heal, to change, to get better… Yes, don’t get me wrong, I’m all in favor of support, take any and all encouragement you need, find skilled, kind, loving people who can hold you, encourage and guide you through this process… just remember that it is your Right to reclaim a state of health…
O.K., some of you are wondering what all this has to do with our daily ‘bad news and catastrophes’… Simple, the country is detoxing, its purging itself of all that is corrupt, all that is filled with pus, all that is dark and evil / greedy / self-serving… all this is being brought forth and openly revealed… so that we can once again be healthy… Yes, do support those who are guiding this process, do encourage Light to reveal corruption, do hold those in authority accountable… and do welcome this ‘healing crisis’, no matter how painful… and for yourself?
Look within, cleanse and release all negativity, all distortions, all hurts / betrayals / past and present offenses… so you may stand fully in your own radiant Light, and hold this Healing Energy so all around you can benefit… This is a time of healing and revelation… embrace it, guide it, support it …
We dedicate this month’s classes to this process of personal healing and transformation, so all of us can support bringing Light to those who flounder in Darkness.

PLANETS & POSSIBILITIES: A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF APRIL 2018

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter April 2018

by Sally Shotwell

It's Spring and we embrace the idea of a personal renewal as Aries Season enfolds us in its initiating energies. The Sun (our consciousness),  Mercury (our thought porcesses) and Uranus (our authenticity) are all is this fiery, vibrant sign which is ruled by assertive Mars.  Because Mercury is retrograde until April 15, our focus,  which would normally tend toward the adventuresome, is concerned with our reconsidering our priorities and perceptions.  Along this same line, Mars (our vitality), Saturn (our maturity) and Pluto (transcendence) are hanging out in earthy, responsible Capricorn,  helping us use our resources wisely so we can take advantage of future opportunities.
Are we aware of how we are responding to our environment?  The more connected we are, the more secure we feel about making decisions.

April 1 Mercury and the Sun are as one and this alignment is fine if we remember to monitor our responses since egos are involved.  April 2  Mars and Saturn are together and, again,  let's temper our actions since stress is in the air.

April 4 Mercury gets in a tussle with Mars which indicates heated interactions, these we know to avoid if at all possible.  The 5th Mercury becomes embroiled with Saturn and, here again, there's no meeting of the minds so let's not invest in an uncomfortable exchange.

April 7 things lighten up when lovely Venus in earthy, fertile Taurus communes with Saturn,  reassuring us about our judgment and the trustworthiness of  those around us.  On the 11th she interacts with Mars, creating a warm  and affectionate connection  and she follows on the 12th with a profound meeting with empathetic Neptune.  Neptune is in watery Pisces and he brings a soulfulness to this encounter. If we pause and allow this influence to seep into our being, we are renewed and can access our intuition. Is there time for stillness in our schedule?

April 14 expansive Jupiter, in intense and watery Scorpio, finds comradeship with relentless Pluto (whose home sign is Scorpio) and their combined power really encourages us to explore our full potential,  they don't play around. What are we discovering about ourself which has been concealed or denied?  Let's remember that Pluto digs up everything and frequently finds treasures.  Scorpio reveals them and we mustn't be afraid of this process!  It comes in handy when, also on the 14th, Mars touches base with Neptune and our psychic nature attunes us with others,  opening up possibilities we never would have dreamed of.  This is exciting and prepares us to take advantage of the upcoming New Moon!

April 15 is a day we've been waiting for - Mercury goes direct!   He's still in his shadow until the 29th but this is still an improvement and contributes greatly to the positive aura which envelopes the New Moon (new beginnings) in Aries.  It is aspected by Mars, Pluto, the Sun and Uranus  and the Sabian Symbol states "Through imagination a lost opportunity is regained:  Revision of attitude and inner revaluation."    With all these influences contributing to our mission to evolve,  we have guidance in preparing for changes in our lives and the inventive ways  to open our minds. Dane Rudhyar stresses  that what counts is "the development of UNDAUNTED FAITH in the pursuit of one's ideals"  even when it's hard to know what is success and failure.

April 17 Venus and Jupiter interact and we may feel optimism but we may become careless due to too much of a good thing either feeling-was or with money.  She quickly moves on to fraternize with Pluto and our interactions are intense, perhaps deepening an established relationship.  Let's just remember the Pluto equates with Power so we need to be prepared for any eventuality. This also holds true on the 18th when the Sun embraces Uranus and can lead us to be surprisingly unrestrained in our dealings with others. This is a recipe for unexpected changes in situations. Saturn turns retrograde guiding us to persevere in getting organized for future developments (which, hopefully we're doing already).

April 19 the Sun enters earthy, stable Taurus and we immediately feel a certain calm accompanying this sign ruled by the side of Venus who relishes Nature.  It's a fixed sign and committed to nurturing what Aries has created.  Let's take time to indulge our senses in honor of this event!

April 22 Pluto turns retrograde and continues his many years residence in Capricorn but Uranus leaves Aries next month for Taurus.  This  should prove interesting.

April 24 Venus enters airy, communicative Gemini and her gaze begins to spread far and wide.  Should we be in a committed relationship, this could cause comment!  Mars and Jupiter combine their strength to be effective in challenges, let's just not engage them in interpersonal issues.

April 25 Mercury and Saturn are clashing which we know creates negative circumstances which we need to avoid and the 26th Mars and Pluto hug each other and can get up to all sorts of  power related business.  Let's remember to deep breathe!

April 29 the Full Moon (culmination) in Scorpio opposite the Taurus Sun brings up emotional issues relating to financial and other intense activities which can only be resolved by compromise which necessitates communication.  The Symbol states "A fellowship supper reunites old comrades:  The overtones of human relationships based on a community of work or experience."   We may not have obvious common ground to share but,  with an open mind, our social consciousness can expand to help us be inclusive.  We are all in this together!

Blessings!

A PEN AND A WATCH

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter March 2018

by Bob Romero

One of our assignments in a course titled “The Triple Flame – Focus On Love” was an empathy exercise, which was to choose a simple object like a pen, and link with it. I have learned in my spiritual enrichment classes that all objects are alive, and are vibrating energies. So the goal was to see the world through its eyes. I looked at the pen that I had, and wondered what could this simple object tell me. It did not have the stature of a fine pen like a Montblanc, and was very plain. It was an ordinary ballpoint pen given to me from a software vendor. The wording on the side had worn off, but it still functioned perfectly. I expected to hear about its qualities as a writing instrument and how dependable it has been. I wasn’t expecting much, but I remembered the words from Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor in the “Superman” movie when he said,  “Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it’s a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.”

So I sat down and began to write. “Well” the pen said, ”even though my scope is limited in that I’m only used to write, you have brought me to your spiritual classes for the last two years. You use me to write key words on the notes that are handed out, which help you get the point, and understand the material. These classes are about the secrets of the universe, and about Spirit. This is a great honor that you have given me, to write about this material. I am also in the room for the meditations that are sometimes done in class, and the meditations after class. So I’m charged with Divine energy, and while I may soon run out of ink, and you will throw me away, this has been a good union, and I thank you for it”.
I was very impressed, and thanked the pen for its valuable insights, and moved on to the second exercise. It was a repeat of the first exercise with a more complex object like a watch, phone, or jewelry. I looked down at my watch and couldn’t wait to find out what it had to say. This watch is about 12 years old and I had been thinking about replacing it.
However, for the same functionality, it would now cost me double the original cost. It is a Casio watch that’s built to withstand lots of punishment, is solar powered so that I never have to replace the batteries, has big bold numbers that I can easily see, and has an alarm, stopwatch, and light, so that I can see the time in the dark. It receives frequencies from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) so that’s it’s always accurate to within a second. The band had just broken a few months ago, and it was pretty hard to finally find a new one. I was feeling a little guilty, because I was thinking of getting a new watch, but I wanted to hear what the watch had to say.
“Well” the watch said, “ I have been with you every waking moment of your life for the last 12 years. I have been with you through all of the good times, and the tough times. I have been there all the times that you’ve laughed, and all the times that you cried. I was there for all of your achievements and successes at work. I was there for all of your good rounds of golf, and all of your bad rounds of golf, but they were all fun. I have been with you in all of your Yoga classes that help you stretch both your body and your mind.
I was there for all of the holiday celebrations and gatherings with family and friends. I was there when you told your wife that you loved her, and when you replied ‘Yes, Dear’ to her. I was there at Christmas when your son asked you to be his best man at his wedding, and then I was there at the wedding when you gave a toast to your son and daughter-in-law, whom you both greatly love and respect. I was there when your granddaughter was born, and I got to touch her when you held there for the first time. I get to do that every time you hold this precious little angel.
I was there when you gave the acceptance speech for your father into the Trinidad State Junior College Education Foundation’s Hall of Fame. I was there everyday when you visited your mom in the nursing home and saw the delight in her eyes, and in yours, when you saw each other. I was there when she breathed her last breath as you held her, and when you said the eulogy at her funeral.
I was there when you went to the hospital from fainting with Atrial Fibrillation, and then recovered. I was also there when you received the healing Reiki energy that made you feel better both physically and spiritually. I’m with you on all of your walks in the bright sunshine at Wash Park that charges your batteries and mine.
I’m there every Sunday in church when you hear your pastor’s homilies, which resonate with you as they are about the true teachings of Christ, and not about church doctrine and dogma.
And I have been with you in all of the classes that you’ve taken on the path to enlightenment and on esoteric science. I thank you for being able to be there to be there for the Divine wisdom and energy that you have received through these classes and meditations. You may discard me for a new model, but it’s been a good ride and I thank you for allowing me to watch all of this, and having our time together. I thanked my watch for its perspective, and all of the memories that we shared.
The readers may think that I thought all of this up in order to do the exercises, but the fact of the matter is, that these thoughts came to me only after I started to write, and imagined what these objects saw with their own eyes. These exercises have taught me that these objects are vibrating with Divine energy, and that the materials that were used to make them, are also God’s creations. So God is indeed everywhere, and is in all things. Therefore we need to treat all things with respect and gratitude.

CHAOS, IN A WORLD OF LOVE AND LIGHT

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter March 2018

by Mario C. Veo

Even the most non-political person among us cannot help being bombarded by the chaotic energies created at the moment… It doesn’t matter how many people get shot, politicians still persist on being in the pockets of ‘special interest groups’… no matter how many women come forth with stories of abuse, still many oppose these as ‘hear-say’… and even when people are exposed and forced to resign, they are praised by their superiors who loudly declare that ‘they are innocent, and their accusers are vicious liars’,

In all this negative bombardment it is not easy to remain centered, to follow the Path of Love and Light, to stand firm yet without rancor, strong without animosity, revealing Darkness without a desire to ‘strike them down’… and this is very, very important.
Do NOT become like the very people who are corrupting this world… Do NOT behave like them… for – no matter how sick their behavior – the moment you wish evil upon them, or you cast virulent words in their direction, then you have just lost the purity of your heart, lost the Light within you… and – even if you succeed – your Energies now match those of the perpetrators.
So… what is one to do…?
On a most basic level we are all ‘called to action’… to stand firm in our beliefs, in our wisdom of Right-vs-Wrong, guided by the respect for human life and the Higher Teachings of Spirit – and now is the time to ‘stand and be counted’… There is a strong movement to address and redress these wrongs, these offenses towards humanity… join your voice to theirs, let them know that you support a vision of a healthy, peaceful world, and that you strongly condemn those who have sold their souls to greed and the mighty dollars… [“Do you really think it will buy you a place in Heaven… seriously, have you no thoughts about the afterlife… well, it’s really warm where you’re going, and it ain’t Cabo !”]… and ultimately, if they are not representing the values which you most cherish, then vote them out of office, for their very presence is a corruption upon the Heart of this world.
For those of you who have training on Spirituality, Metaphysics, Shamanism, Wicca, and other Ancient Teachings, for you there is an extra task… appealing to that aspect of Spirit-Creator that ‘sits in judgment’. Lift your thoughts to Spirit, and ask – directly – for Divine Intervention… literally, appeal to Spirit for Justice, for the redress of Balance, for more Light to cast all Darkness out in the open, for new Leaders with a greater Consciousness to step forward and once again hold office with Integrity… and call these Divine Energies upon the Heart of us all, so finally, Right Action may prevail… [for god knows we need it !]
Yes, the behavior of many so called ‘leaders’ often makes me sick to my stomach… but I have great faith in Karma… and Divine Retribution… after all, what goes around, comes around… such is Karma!
Do NOT forget – you are a Spiritual Being, committed to the Path of Love and Light… and these are the instruments you have chosen for your own Illumination, for your own advancement… that by so doing, the whole world may be uplifted, and a better place created. So do not despair, do not give in to the offensive tongues, the malicious gossip, the derogatory words… stand firm in your Light… and remind them all what Integrity looks like… remember, the more radiant we can be, the more Light we can bring to this time of chaos…
This month’s classes are dedicated to your most radiant aspect – your Aura … how to cleanse it, heal it, shield it, program it … it’s a precious gift – cherish it!

PLANETS & POSSIBILITIES: A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF MARCH 2018

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter March 2018

by Sally Shotwell

The month begins with the Sun (our consciousness), Mercury (our thought processes), Venus (our values) and Neptune (the Infinite), all in dreamy, compassionate Neptune-ruled Pisces. This watery, emotional sign is associated with our imagination and nurtures our soul, but can be disorienting as we deal with demands of our every day existence. Fortunately, the Full Moon (culmination) in early, practical, Mercury-ruled Virgo(opposite Pisces) March 1 helps us to combine tapping into the creativity we’re experiencing while not losing ourselves to tempting escapism. The Sabian Symbol states, “After the wedding, the groom steals the veil away from the bride: The penetrating and unveiling power of the trained mind” and alludes to the “physical action with psychological and spiritual overtones” we need for our own progress. Virgo assists us in distinguishing the valuable from the expendable in our lives and we should take advantage of this help as we also have other beneficent aspects at our disposal.
March 1 we also have lovely Venus and optimistic Jupiter in watery, intense Scorpio promoting our sincerity and authenticity when interacting with others which perks us up on the 2nd, as Mercury joins in the action by offering a knowledgeable, communicative factor to the picture. March 4 the Pisces influence extends further as the Sun and Neptune co-mingle and strongly encourage us to pursue our altruistic and spiritual aspirations, stretching ourselves beyond our material concerns. Mercury and Venus gracefully waltz together before heading off into fiery Aries and let’s use this watery interlude to nurture our sensitivities and bask in the mysterious.
March 5/6 Mercury and Venus enter the sign of the individualistic explorer which is ruled by Mars (our vitality) and we now become restless to act. With Venus ruling relationships and Mercury supervising communications in Aries, we want to be sure our enthusiasm in dealing with others is well thought out. This is especially important since Jupiter (expansion) is turning retrograde March 8 in intense Scorpio, directing us to internalize and revisit our belief systems and this can trigger unusual reactions in us as we relate to others.
March 11 we have a powerful meeting between energetic Mars in fiery, forward-looking Sagittarius, and innovative Uranus who is gradually wrapping up his historic stay in Aries. We can tap in to the infectious, futuristic vision they exude and bravely embrace new avenues of self-expression. Simultaneously, the Sun and Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, are prodding us to be confident and give ourselves credit for gaining the self-awareness we need to persevere. We need to keep all this in mind March 13 as Venus and Saturn (boundaries) in earthy Capricorn clash and potentially cause relationship stress, but we know to extricate ourselves and are soon rewarded for our good judgement. The Sun and Jupiter offer us the where-with-all to have a positive attitude about ourselves as we prepare for the March 17 New Moon.
This New Moon (new beginnings) in Pisces acknowledges that our efforts are paying off. The Symbol “The Harvest Moon illuminates a clear autumn sky: The light of fulfillment that blesses work well done.” Although we’re on the verge of Spring, the “reaping of the good harvest” still applies to the concept of our sowing what we cultivate and we have it available as we begin a New Astrological Year. Also, Mars enters earthy, serious Capricorn, adding gravitas to the event but there’s a lightening in the atmosphere the 19th as Mercury happily snuggles up with Venus in preparation for our welcoming the Arian Vernal Equinox on the 20th. The days begin to grow longer and we celebrate the fecundity associated with the theme of rebirth in the Northern Hemisphere. The exuberance makes all this possible but, this year we must build into our expectations the subduing influence that the March 23 Mercury retrograde in Aries imposes on our plans. As usual, we’re in a time which requires us to closely monitor our decisions and commitments, reviewing and revising how we communicate with others.
March 23 and 24, we need to employ a hands off policy as first Venus (love) and Pluto (obsession) stir up a lot of passion and power plays, followed by the Sun and Mars impulsively confronting each other. Are we remembering our strategies in remaining detached during trying times through deep breathing and other calming aids?
March 28 Venus and Uranus connect and let’s prepare for stimulating relationship experiences and sudden attractions. This sounds fun, but let’s remember we have retrograde Mercury and Jupiter in the background counseling, “Don’t get carried away, Lover!”. The 29th the Sun disagrees with Saturn, causing our expectations to take a hit but, if we moderate our enthusiasm, we come out unscathed. The 30th Venus enters her home territory of earthy Taurus and we feel an appreciation of the physical world around us. Let’s pay attention to what Nature is offering us and figure out a way to enjoy it.
March 31 is the second Full Moon of the month, this time in airy, relationship-oriented and aesthetic Libra, also ruled by Venus. Here we have the independent Aries Sun opposite the prototype of interdependence trying to find common ground while Saturn and Mars, in Capricorn, are mucking up the works. If we can keep communications open, with greater understanding, we complement each other. The Symbol is “A professor peering over his glasses at his students: Problems attending the transmission of knowledge in a special cultural setup.” We’re taking our mission a step further than the professor by lowering the boundary between us to relate our differences, thus encouraging dialogue. Are we allowing ourselves to connect with others who have unfamiliar world views? As we do this, our lives become a lot more interesting and we get a new take on ourselves. Isn’t being stimulated refreshing?
Blessings!
