THE SECRET FLOWER

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter February 2018

High up in the unforgiving wilderness that is the Himalayas lies a hidden valley, called the Valley of Flowers.
Some say that this is truly Shangri-La, the Land of Everlasting Beauty… much as I would like to sustain this gentle notion, this is not the case. You see, this Valley is fairly well known by the few local tribes that live nearby … this is where young men pick the pretty flowers they give to their beloveds, this is where the few lucky bunnies come to taste the waking of Spring, this is where the Devas of the Sacred Mountains come to dance in the full moon…
This is the Valley of Joy …
And here, stuck at the very edge, forgotten by all that is beautiful, lies a little patch of snow which can never melt … No matter how much the Sun joyfully plays amongst the pretty flowers, no matter how the perfumed breezes gently meander through the Valley, they simply cannot touch this small, little, patch of snow …
Bordered by strong boulders [as if in defense of some unseen enemy] they circle the snow, guarding it from change, keeping it constant through their shadows … this they have done for thousand of years … this they will do for thousand more … for they consider it to be ‘Duty’ … and now, ‘Sacred Duty’.
But what is Time if not just a momentary breath of the Divine … and what if no judgment, no criticism, no
disapproving censure was given to these fierce guardians … what if there was simple acceptance …
Would they not, over the millennia, relax in their intense rigidity, would they not come to feel that – even though they were not like the others – yet in some strange manner, they did belong …
… and how would this affect the land, the very loving Valley which shelters them all …
And so it came to pass that in this day of Joyful Spring, for the first time, a single beautiful while flower was born out of the eternal snows … just as radiant, just as bright as the white mantel which surrounds it … and with true joy it sang a song so pure, so filled with crystal tones, that every living being around it was transported – just for a moment – to ecstasy …
Still surrounded by these strong guardians, no-one knew the source of such infinite beauty … this secret flower of the Hidden Valley … just smiled … and sang, unperturbed …
Now every year, many come to sit and rest among the colorful flowers, each with their own opinion as to the source of such pure songs … and still none thinks of looking in the one place that is believed to be barren …
Yes, every year, for just a moment, the unique blossom emerges to sing its Song of Joy … safe from turmoil of others,  thanks to the dedications of its eternal protectors who now, for some undisclosed reason, seem to be much, much more mellow …

PSYCHIC READING WITH MOM

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter February 2018

by Bob Romero

My wife invited me to attend her Circle Of Light meeting with her group that meets on the third or fourth Monday of the month. Most members of the group are women who are involved in some type of holistic healing like Reiki or Angel Therapy. I had become interested in Reiki nine years ago when I was in a lot of pain with my shoulders, and nothing seem to help. I could barely raise my arms to shoulder height. My wife had just had some Reiki sessions and recommended that I try it. Sure enough I did and my pain went completely away. That experience sparked an interest in me, in not only holistic healing, but in higher consciousness and esoteric science. I began taking classes at the Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore in these types of classes. So I jumped at the chance to attend this meeting.

I was the only man there with about 20 women. One of the members plays golf with my wife in her golf leagues. She is also the organist at her church. For this meeting, her daughter was the featured speaker. From the email that was sent out, it was stated that her daughter was born with psychic abilities and a sensitive, kind heart.  She loves to help people connect to Source and/or their departed loved ones to receive healings and answers.  Her psychic reading modalities include intuitive, tarot, and Angel Card readings plus runes or any combination. She has participated in many psychic fairs. There was no cost for her readings.
We had a potluck dinner that was hosted by a woman who does all types of healing in her home. She was dressed completely in white. Her house is filled with hundreds of images and statues of angels. There were also lots of crystals and several large Amethyst Geodes, which are purple crystals like the ones shown in the picture.
Each Amethyst Geode is worth several thousand dollars and if you put your hand in them, you can feel a tingling. There was also a special glass display case of angels in the front room where we all met for the meeting. There was a light at the top of the display, which will come into play during this discussion. It was a very positive atmosphere and I felt good about being there.
As mentioned before, the speaker was born with these gifts. At first, her parents thought that there were something wrong with her, and had her tested for psychological problems. She turned out to be fine, although her mom told me that she would cause her Religious Ed instructors to feel uncomfortable. She would sometimes tell them, “Five angels just walked in with you”. She’s now in her early twenties. She’s very bubbly and has multi-colored hair and is always smiling. She smiled at me and told me a couple of times, “Don’t be nervous mejo”, although she wasn’t sure about the last word. It actually turned out to be “jito” which my mom would sometimes call me referring to her little boy.
We had a meditation before we got started. The light in the display kept turning off and on. My wife had heard that it did that when there were physic readings, but just a few times. People commented that the loved ones were anxious to be heard. The speaker said that she was already hearing from them as she was driving toward the house.
Before we got started, she stated that she had rules for anyone to speak and that she was in total control. She did not channel anyone, but she just listened and spoke to him or her. She then mentioned that my mom was at the front of the line and was very anxious. My mom had passed six months earlier. I noted that my mom was very assertive and had little patience. The light in the display turned off and on several times while she talked to mom.
She has translators that help her when someone speaks to her in another language. She said that mom was apologizing for the confusion that she thought that she caused as to where she was to be buried, and didn’t want me to be concerned about it and used a Spanish word for tension. I remembered that mom had long before, picked a place next to dad, but in the last couple of months, before she passed, she kept saying that she wanted to be buried next to her mother. I had attributed that to her dementia. She said not to worry about it, as she’s not there anyway, and that she would see me in heaven, because that’s where she was going. She couldn’t see us very well in the last few days before she passed, because she was crossing over.
Mom said that she had had questions about my wife but realizes now, that my wife loves me. During the last few months, mom’s dementia had her convinced that we were divorced, but living next to each other.  Mom likes the fact that she can see everything that’s going on now.
The speaker then asked me if I had an older brother. She said that mom was concerned about him and that she was going to help him. She then asked me if I had an older sister, and I said that I had two from mom and one from dad. She said it was the younger sister, that she was also concerned about, and that she was going to help her too. I said that my brother-in- law was sick, and so she pointed to her head said that it was something about the mind. So mom will be helping my sister and my brother through their tough times before she goes to heaven. She actually is here for all of us.
There were several more people that came forth, and their stories were absolutely incredible. I was completely dumbfounded by all of this and could hardly think. There was no way that the speaker would know about any of the events that happened in people’s lives, and especially what she relayed from my mom. After we were finished, she joked, and said to me, “Your mother gave me a headache”. I didn’t get to talk to her afterwards, as she was swamped with several of the attendees, and we had to get home, because it was late. I had trouble sleeping that night, as I had never experienced anything like that personally. What struck me were not just the details that mom told her, but that mom’s personality traits also came forward.
A couple of weeks after the reading, my sister, whom mom had talked about in the reading, and I, went down to Trinidad for a mass in mom’s name. The night before the Mass, we visited with our oldest sister and our niece just east of Trinidad. It was a very nice visit in which I talked all about the reading, and we all felt good. When we got on the highway back to town, my sister and I saw a shooting star. The more I think about it now, the better I feel, as I know that mom is doing fine and that she’s here with us.
Until these last few years, I was always very rational and logical due to my math and science background. While I had a spiritual faith from my religious upbringing, I reasoned that it was based on events that happened a long long time ago. I was very skeptical about any thing that was supernatural or mystic. My mother would light candles and pray the rosary, and most of the time her prayers were answered even when the odds were against her. While I believed in God, and God was answering her prayers, I thought that it was all part of the overall plan and due to my mom’s good fortune, for being do devout. I did not see a direct link. I had not experienced miracles and magic personally. I have been shaken to my core with the Reiki healing and training, with the classes that I have attended, and with my mom’s reading. I have developed an unquenchable thirst for metaphysical knowledge and wisdom, and I can’t wait for more classes and more experiences.

LOVE... JUST LOVE

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter February 2018

by Mario C. Veo

I find it ironic that most religions around the world are firmly based on Love… kindness… nurturance… forgiveness – especially those that embrace the teachings of Jesus, the Master – yet seem to find no contradiction in abusing others, taking advantage of their own status and power to exploit and even mistreat those whom they feel to be ‘inferior’ to them… “After all…” [I’ve heard some say] “ I am not responsible for your debts / mess you’ve created / missed education / race-gender inequality…” Well, actually you really are… let me put it in the same language you’ve used in the past: “If you’re not part of the solution, you are part of the problem…” And for those of you who truly believe that you can stay ‘neutral’, I refer you to the famous words of Pontius Pilate “I wash my hands of all this… Do with Him what you will”… and so they crucified Christ – not for being a horrible, violent person … but for preaching Love, and kindness, and the Brotherhood of Man.
No, I’m not advocating some kind of political, or even ideological line [god knows there are enough fools sprouting off some self-serving propaganda – much to the merriment of late night talk-shows… but I digress]. All I’m inviting you to do is reflect… truly go within and ask yourself the hard questions… “What do you believe in… and why… what are the principles you live by… and their consequences… and – my most favorite – What kind of Karma are you creating for yourself…
Don’t just mouth off some superficial platitude about being ‘a good person’, or worse, being a good church goer [even Al Capone was dedicated to his church ]…just take a good look at your Life and your everyday thoughts and actions… and – if you believe in Heaven-Hell – ask yourself what qualifies you for salvation… and just for a moment, consider – what if all the righteous propaganda you’ve been programmed to accept… turns out to be just that: the simple manipulation of Ego, designed to make you feel ever so superior…
Now what…?!?
All the Spiritual teachings, throughout the ages, have always – clearly – stated that Love is the Energy of  Creation… it is that which links us all together… it is that which links us to Spirit-Creator. Only through Love can we find happiness… forgiveness… compassion… Only through Love can we truly call ourselves to be ‘of-the-Light’… to be ‘Enlightened’… and find Oneness with ALL of Creation…
… yes, with our current [poor] world consciousness most of us have suffered some kind of heart-wound, some betrayal, abuse, unfairness, injustice… and now we have a choice:-  “Do we simply bow down to these negative energies, and allow them to limit and restrict our Life – and the pleasures which rightfully belong to us all… or… can we do something about addressing and redressing this… and if so, what…?!?”
I’m dedicating the month of February [the febrile month!] to the passionate pursuit of Love, to the charming and joyful engagement of the greatest of all Energies… and – for those that need – to the healing necessary to reclaim all the Love our little hearts can hold… if you so choose…

PLANETS & POSSIBILITIES: A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF FEBRUARY 2018

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter February 2018

by Sally Shotwell

This month begins with our being under the influence of a very powerful Full Moon(culmination) Lunar Eclipse in fiery, heart-based Leo. As we are aware, eclipses bring with them unexpected insights or events which lead us to new ways of seeing something important in our lives. Since the Sun(our consciousness), Mercury (our thought processes) and Venus(what we most value) are in Aquarius, let’s see where this sign’s influence is most likely to resonate with us. Actually, fixed air Aquarius is noted for its brilliant, innovative thinking and desire to improve the lot of humanity, all be it, from an emotionally detached position. When we ponder where we’re directing our attention, are we releasing out of date expectations of the future and entertaining new possibilities? Uranus, the Great Awakener, rules this sign and introduces change when its necessary for growth and February 6 lovely Venus teams up with him introducing a way to connect in an exciting fashion.  Her role becomes more subdued as she enters watery, dreamy Pisces February 10 where her more romantic, feeling side comes into play. She  reminds us that our fulfilling relationships connect us on a deeper level than just the mental.  Are we taking time to muse and give our minds a break?

We need this  since the Sun is being encouraged by extravagant Jupiter in watery, Scorpio to perhaps go out on a limb with some involvement – let’s just pend for the time being.

February 13
it’s communicative Mercury’s turn to deal with Jupiter’s grandiose ideas but our attention is captured by the Sun and future-oriented Uranus in fiery, dynamic Aries.  This is a match made in heaven since they’re speaking the same language, sharing uninhibited, spirited ideas which lead to freedom-producing possibilities to be followed up on.

February 15
Uranus gets in touch with curious Mercury and their their combined intuition and inventiveness come up with ways to allow these progressive possibilities to become a reality.  All this is leading up to the Solar New Moon (new beginnings) Eclipse in visionary Aquarius (also 2/15) which is packed with activity.

It’s opposite the position that was held by the August 21, 2017 Great American Eclipse in Leo so issues we remember that came up then will be swirling around now and we have an opportunity to check on how we’re doing.  The Sabian Symbol suggests that we’re taking the lessons seriously through INTELLIGENT FORESIGHT.  “A tree felled and sawed to ensure a supply of wood for the winter:  Knowledge and skills used in its natural surroundings for the satisfaction of vital basic needs.”  The message touches the issue that to ensure our well being we must continue to participate in the natural
world, using technology to serve us, not control us. Are we connecting with our environment?

February 17 is a busy day since the Sun and Mercury embrace in Aquarius, solidifying their intellectual achievements prior to Mercury’s entrance into idealistic Pisces where his focus becomes more intuitive. The Sun joins him and Venus on the 18th and we feel the atmosphere become more moist and flowing as this mutable water sign takes center stage.  Its symbol is two fishes connected by a thread,  swimming in different directions in an endless ocean.  This illustrates the duality we all face in connecting with the material world while also reaching beyond it.

February 21 loving Venus and other-worldly Neptune dance together and share with us fertile ground for emotionally rich encounters and creative artistic endeavors. Let’s take advantage of this charming opportunity to spend time with caring companions or just daydream – we deserve it. We’re already grounded thanks to Mercury being in contact with practical Saturn in earthy Capricorn so we won’t go off the rails.

February 25
gentle Venus is pitted against aggressive Mars in fiery, adventurous Sagittarius and this doesn’t lead to a happy exchange since she’s in no mood to entertain edgy drama, neither are we and we don’t have to. Mercury and Neptune are together in transcendent Pisces and  imagination is running high but the situation is ephemeral and not conducive to our making decisions until the Sun and Saturn come on the scene and help us reasonably define our potential and opportunities.  With this vetting we can pursue our ambitions.

February 27 sensitive Venus and relentless Pluto in Capricorn put their heads together and he shares his profound perceptions with her, helping her better understand others’ motivations and burning away the fog that surrounds everything Pisces.  Alliances can thrive with this clarity and let’s use it ourselves in evaluating current and past relationships.
This is the time to be seeing questionable affiliations with rose-colored glasses, we have better ways to spend our time and energy.

February 28
Mercury is busy first dealing with Mars  in circumstances similar Venus’s recent experience due to them both swimming through emotional waters. They feel under attack by the God of War.  This is the time for us to remember our strategies to detach from hostile exchanges and we’re really in luck as again Pluto comes to the rescue (isn’t this a new role?). He  guides Mercury in understanding the meaning of the profound drama we’re living through. Let’s  remember that, even though it may seem allusive, we are playing an important role on the stage!

Happy Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year of the Earth Dog (2/15)!
Blessings!

HOW MANIFESTATION REALLY WORKS...OR NOT

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter January 2018

by Mario C. Veo

Ever since ‘The Secret’ came out everyone and their uncle jumped on this band-wagon… It was going to teach the whole world how to Manifest ! abundantly ! be rich ! healthy ! find a Soul Mate ! and finally, for the first time in their Life, be truly, truly happy !!
Well, in the famous words of Dr. Phil, “How’s that working for you ?”
After all the glam and glitter settled down [and the producers made a boat load of money] what do you think happened?…  NOTHING !  Look around you – what’s changed? Has the whole world miraculously become rich and prosperous and wise and loving…? nope, zilch, zip, nil, nada… Nothing changed…
So people just shrugged off this latest ‘fad’ and moved on to the next [“Have you heard of this miraculous extract from jelly fish that’s meant to give you perfect health ?!? It’s a wonder drug !!”] No, I’m not cynical [much]… just very, very disappointed [and a little / a lot peeved at people who exploit others by giving them only superficial information !!!… ever heard of Karma ?!?]
So what’s the deal with ‘The Secret’ – it’s simply the Law of Attraction which, correctly stated is “As Within, so Without”… meaning “You can only attract/ manifest/ create that which is already within you!!” Now do you see the problem?
If you are struggling financially… hey, guess what, you can use The Secret to attract… more financial difficulties!! Hold on, that’s not what they promised you… They said you could use their techniques to get money / and health / and love and stuff…  Was it all wrong ?!  Was this just another rip off  ?! Well, not intentionally [at least, I don’t think so]… they simply left out some of the most important Foundation Work, so that this [very] ancient Law of Attraction can be made to work – correctly.
Work on yourself FIRST… there is NOTHING ‘out there’… everything exists ONLY within you… truly realize Who and What you are… and stop going after that which doesn’t belong to you  [you wouldn’t be happy even if you got it !]…
… and now, for the first time, you can truly Manifest all that is glorious and abundant in Life… Because it is the New Year – and the perfect time to examine this powerful subject – we are offering a series of workshops to guide you… from releasing past obstacles, to discovering who you are, to examining Self Worth, and even realizing that there is soooo much more that we can have… it’s a glorious trip! [if you want it]

I DREAMT I WAS A BUTTERFLY...

© 2018 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter January 2018

by Mario C. Veo

It was an early Spring morning, one of those glorious days when the Sun begins to warm the world, and the morning dew has not yet fled away to parts unknown. I could hear the birds waking, their joyful songs taking roll-call  “I’m here… I’m here…  Me too …” they all seemed to say…
All is fresh, all is yet undecided… Oh, the excitement of new beginnings  “What shall today bring… What shall we do in this radiant day …?” And the breeze answered “Whatever your heart desires, little ones… Look out there – the whole world is  waiting for you… go… explore… be free [while you still can, for winter shall come too soon]…” With wings aflutter they all took off, racing in their youth, to find the nectar of this new day.
The same yearning woke within me – the desire to spread my own wings, to go and be part of this carefree day, to drink the golden light of the sun, and commute with the morning breeze… Encouraged by such happy thoughts I valiantly struggled against my cocoon, pushing and tearing away at the remnants of my old self, struggling against the very safety I’d created, and no longer needed… until – finally – I could feel the kiss of the Sun on my newly formed self… With one final push I emerged, still trembling with exertion, I hung there to drink in the day… to warm my flesh, and feel this new Life I’d dreamt of…
Gently my wings spread out… and for the first time I saw the beauty of my colors… beyond the simple brush of Nature, I shine with iridescent glitter and sparkle with effervescent light… Oh, I’m glorious…
All around me is new and joyous and full of Life… and so I too launch myself to this new day in search of my own beginnings…
…and the wise breeze looks on with tenderness “Enjoy every moment, every instant of your Life, little one  –  never fear that a Life as short as yours need be constrained in any manner… Love, live, embrace all that you are, and with each moment declare yourself  – ‘I live in the fullness that is myself !’… and when the too quick an end comes, then know that you’ve lived well and lived fully… and that is all that truly matters…” lay in bed, my eyes barely open, the sun not yet lighting the sky, as I pondered the teachings of this dream… how such a simple being – whose life may be as short as two weeks, but never longer than a year – could embrace Life with such fervor, see the beauty of a new day, and be so passionate about all that was to be found… I dreamt I was a butterfly… and for the first time knew Life to be joyous and free…

PLANETS & POSSIBILITIES: A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF JANUARY 2018

© 2017 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter January 2018

by Sally Shotwell

We’re no doubt feeling propelled to get down to business as the New year arrives and it’s very understandable.  The influence of Capricorn pervades the scene with its practical, responsible take on things, especially because the Sun (our consciousness),  Venus (love and values), Saturn (boundaries) and Pluto (transformation) are all busy helping us put in place the ambitious agenda we’ve been considering.   This earthy sign’s motivation is to create sound structures  which our society may count  on and we feel safe.  One of its symbols is the Mountain Goat who shows fortitude and skill in reaching the summit of a high mountain peek.  It’s polar opposite is watery, Cancer who also has it’s own agenda to insure our well being but it entails the nurturing and protection of those we cherish in our personal live.  Our assignment is to integrate both of these urges in order to balance our own urges and relax in peace of mind.  With relaxation we’re able to receive and absorb subtle influences which aren’t immediately evident.  Enter the January 1 Full Moon in Cancer which offers us the opportunity to address our situation.

The Sabian Symbol states “A Chinese woman nursing a baby whose aura reveals him to be the reincarnation of a great teacher:  The revelation of latent worth in an experience once it is seen in its deeper meaning.”   We’re encouraged to look beyond appearance and discover the innate in ourselves and others, beyond judgment and glamorization.  Are we spending time with ourselves in stillness, allowing Cancer’s healing water to pour through us?

Let’s hold on to that image as we consider the excitement  January 2 brings with innovative Uranus turning direct in fiery, assertive Aries.  He’s been leading us on an inward journey and it’s now time for us to regroup and forge ahead and  overtly deal with his insistent call for us to shed what’s inauthentic in our lives.  That’s why he’s know as the Great Awakener.  As we accept the changes we’re going through, new doors are opening  but let’s take advantage of the Saturnine stability we have on hand to keep us grounded.  January 6 Mercury (our thought processes), in fiery adventurous Sagittarius, joins him to brainstorm and we may be stimulated to venture into unknown territory.   January 8 the Sun and optimistic Jupiter, in watery Scorpio,  join the scenario and contribute a reality check since when Scorpio is involved,  deep scrutiny prevails.   The action continues into the 9th so let’s keep our equilibrium by remembering, should things seem overwhelming, to deep breathe and go along for the ride.

January 10 Mercury (communication) enters already crowded Capricorn and our interactions may take on a still more serious tone.   We now want to put in place the inspiring ideas cooked up during his stay in expansive Sagittarius and Saturn shares his sound advise with him the 12th.  Uranus, meanwhile, is irritating Venus and the Sun on the 13 and 14 and we may feel a bit edgy but the support of New Moon in Capricorn on the 16th is reassuring.  This New Moon (new beginnings) is supported by his compatriots  the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Pluto.  This line-up encourages us to persevere in our efforts to increase our self-understanding.  The Symbol states “Pilgrims climbing the steps leading to a mountain shrine:  The ascent of the individualized consciousness to the highest realizations reached by the spiritual leaders of our culture.”

Isn’t it fortunate that we have so much wise and useful material at our disposal to guide us as we explore our own unique approach towards self-realization.

January 17 Venus, Goddess of Love, Beauty and Money, enters airy, intellectual Aquarius and we may become more interested in big picture issues beyond our immediate lives.  This may entail our joining with others in a group effort since this sign’s perspective is broadly inclusive.  The 19th the Sun joins her and we’re reminded of the Water Bearer who pours down  from a jug upon the earth the knowledge, or, in some interpretations, energy/electricity which sets humankind free.  Quixotic Uranus is the sign’s ruler and let’s remember to temper the lure of the intellect  which can lead us away from our feeling nature.  We’re all part of a whole and the individual wellbeing of each of us is what makes it complete.

January 24 Mercury and Pluto, God of the Underworld, contribute their efforts to the ongoing process of revealing what has remained hidden.  Since they’re in Capricorn, the sign of authority  and prominent institutions,  we may as well resign ourselves to more disquieting revelations.  We realize that while this is a trend which continues to gain steam, we have a responsibility to ourselves to find reassurance in our genuine relationships with others and inspiration where ever we can find it.  Mars comes to the rescue the 26th when he enters fiery, forward-looking Sagittarius and, through his dynamism, assists in fueling our joie de vivre.  Are we taking the time relax and have fun with no other goal in mind?

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (change) in fiery Leo January 31 may help us answer this question.  Leo is ruled by the Sun and is heart-centered, helping us to tap into the purity of the Divine Child who shares his love and joy with us.   Mercury is simultaneously entering Aquarius and accentuating our mental processes and here we have another opportunity to create balance between the heart and mind. Being a Super Moon and an Eclipse ramps up the message of the Symbol which is “An evening party of adults on a lawn illuminated by fancy lanterns:  Group relaxation in fashionable surroundings as an escape from work routine.”    We want to enjoy ourselves and enter into festivities but Dane Rudhyar comments that we don’t want to succumb to social fashion or “intellectuality or wit” and miss the boat on sincerity.   With all the work we’re doing, we don’t have time to be sidetracked by the superficial!

Blessings!

AND SO THE CYCLE ENDS...

© 2017 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter December 2017

by Mario C. Veo

All Life is about Cycles … something must end so there may be a new Beginning – but only if we’ve made space for it …
But most of us don’t  –  we hang on to the disturbing news, the harsh words, the offensive actions… and even the brutal memories… and never once question what these Energies are doing to ourselves, and our Life.
Remember the Law of Attraction…?  Whatever you focus on, so you shall receive…
Now, some of you would say that we can just stay focused on Life’s joys, the pleasurable acts, the loving memories, the smiles and gentle touch… and while this is better than focusing on the negative, still, it doesn’t make space for the New…
You see, if you fill yourself with past memories [no matter how pleasant] you get just that: ‘memories’, and nothing else can come in… In fact, you will compare everything and everyone you come across to your Past… and that’s just not fair…
Why?… Because your memory is not perfect, and while you can – and often do – remember only the good things / good times, this is not a true reflection of how you felt at that time… in fact, you create an ‘idyllic fantasy’ of what it once was…
And there’s more –  who you are today is not who you once were … so the way in which you embraced and appreciated the past is not how you would respond today  [remember the endless parties, and how you’d just bounce right back … well, can you still do that now …?]
While it is good to have these wonderful memories, still you must live ‘in the Now’ – be present, here, today – and appreciate what you have … be grateful for the good things that are available to you now, no matter how small, for these are the riches upon which you can build an even greater, more rewarding Future.
Look forward to the New Year… choose what you will do with it… and what you will become, because of your choices… Remember – everything changes… it is up to you – and only you – to guide these changes towards that which is filled with Love, Beauty, Health, and Wealth… after all, we do live in a world of Infinite Possibilities… if you so believe…

The young man stood at the beginning of the trail, his backpack firmly on his shoulders, and took one small sip of water … contemplating the journey ahead. “It’s a n easy one” they said …  “Just a few miles … you’ll be there before sundown … just don’t wander off, and you’ll be fine”  [like that was reassuring – what would happen if he did ‘wander off’ … and how far would he have to go off trail before ‘it’ happened …?!]

But he curbed his distracting thoughts, squared his shoulders … and took the first of many steps … His eyes firmly on the horizon, his breath strong and even, the journey began … This was not just a frivolous escapade, but one that would determine his future … well, at least as he thought his future should be …
You see, she was waiting for him at the end of the trail … a final gesture, a hope for reconciliation, a ‘test’ of his resolve …to find out if they should have a Life together … Did they quarrel ? well, not any more than other couples…and, he thought with secret satisfaction, the make-up sex afterwards was great … so, all should have been forgiven … should it not ?! After all, he didn’t cheat on her, drank very moderately, and only on social occasions, did not go off ‘with the boys’, in fact they often planned outing together … but noooo, she felt that it wasn’t enough, that he worked too hard, and staid way too late most nights …
Well, you tell me how he was going to pay for all the gifts, and jewels, the fancy cars, the mortgage, and the holidays abroad … never mind that he did it all for her … couldn’t she see that he was a good – no scratch that – a great provider …?! that anything she wanted, anything at all, he would move heaven and earth to get it for her… That all these sacrifices had to be done now, while he was still young, and strong, and could work hard … and that if he didn’t do it… well, no-one else was going to do it for him…!
So, why was she so contrary, why was she complaining so much… WHAT DID HE DO WRONG…?!!!
And with each step his mind rose in turmoil, clouding not only his reason, but also his vision… No longer was he seeing the beauty of the trail, no longer did he appreciate the fresh wind, the pretty flowers, or the birds on the wing…
Closed within himself, he stomps with each step, glowering at each pebble that twists his foot, or the branch that dares encroach upon his path, or the warm sun upon his back… No joy in this journey … what started off as a path of self-examination, and a desire to strengthen the bond that might still exist, now has simply turned into the oldest ‘blame-game’ of all “I’m not wrong, because you are not right !!”…
After all”, he rationalizes, “both of us can’t be blameless, and I know that I did nothing wrong … so the fault must lie with her” … even if he cannot think what this might be… And as he plods along, the sun begins to set, the temperature cools off… and he realizes that he isn’t anywhere near the end of the trail… in fact, he seems to have gotten himself turned around  [was he not paying attention ?] for there, I front of him, is the very starting point, the beginning of his journey… “Oh, what’s the point of it all” he mutters to himself as he steps off “It wouldn’t have worked out – she just isn’t grateful enough … just doesn’t appreciate me !”
… and so, secure in his own unsullied pride, he once again moves towards the glittering lights of his Life …while at the end of the trail she waits … and even as the last rays of the setting sun give way to night, she hopes that he’ll realize that all she ever wanted was him – not his gifts, money, or jewels… just him…
Now you, the reader, must decide – was the journey fruitful… did it accomplish anything… and what did it reveal…? … but before you pass so quick a judgment consider that this is your perception, and so reveals more about you, than the poor protagonists of this sorry tale…
There is no ‘right’ and there is no ‘wrong’… there is simply ‘Perception’… and thus we create our Reality…

PLANETS & POSSIBILITIES: A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF DECEMBER 2017

© 2017 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter December 2017

by Sally Shotwell

We’re now in the last month of the calendar year which offers us the transitional events of the Winter Solstice mid month and the entrance into 2018 not long after.  The demands of the Holiday Season can be daunting but we have the Sun (our consciousness),  Teacher Saturn, Mercury(our thought processes), and Venus, Goddess of Love, Beauty and Money, all in Sagittarius.  This fire sign is ruled by expansive Jupiter and his  symbol is the Archer, a Centaur (half man, half horse) who always aims his arrow upward to the stars, striving to connect with universal understanding.

We ourselves can integrate into our attitude  this big picture approach as we tackle the demands which swirl around us this time of year.  Lovely Venus has arrived on the scene December 1 and she quickly embraces an exuberant approach to interpersonal exchanges.  We may find ourselves becoming more adventuresome in our own relationships – what can we lose?

Also on December 1, we have assertive Mars in airy, harmony-loving Libra at odds with with unpredictable Uranus in fiery, in “me first” Aries and it’s best if we take care of our business and avoid this clash of wills. Fortunately,  December 2  our detachment pays off  when optimistic Jupiter in watery Scorpio gets together with compassionate Neptune in watery, transcendent Pisces create a benevolent environment, striking a spiritual chord for us to tune in to.  This promotes our faith in each other and the courage to pursue our dreams.

Are we allowing ourselves time to relax and receive the information our inner voice is sharing with us?

December 3 mental Mercury turns retrograde in inspiring Sagittarius, calling on us to refine our perceptions. Although may we interpret  this to be a set back in our progress, the need for us to rethink and review what we’re engaged in can save us from avoidable missteps.  This reflection pays off as the Full Moon(culmination) in mental Gemini is in a lively dialogue with the Sun in philosophical Sagittarius as dreamy Neptune enters in, muddying the communication.  The Sabian Symbol comes to the rescue, pointing us to the importance of our pursuing our self-awareness and independence. It uses an image which predates the Civil Rights Movement and states “A Negro girl fights for her independence in the city:  Liberation from the ghosts of the past.”  She didn’t have the resources we have at our disposal but he courage saw her through.  Let’s  work on how we can move beyond what aspect of our past stands between us and freedom.  Where do we feel blocked?
December 9 assertive Mars enters watery, driven Scorpio and enters the arena where Jupiter is holding court, investigating all things hidden. There’s a lot of emotion attached to the revelations which are surfacing, both in our personal lives and the avalanche of material from the public realm. Processing yucky stuff can be very draining and we need to be mindful that any time Scorpio is in the picture we must remind ourselves to compensate the dark with exposure to enlivening circumstances and material.  What lightens up our lives?

December 10 Venus and Neptune rendezvous and share idealistic expectations of how interpersonally we can flourish.  Let’s ponder what they bring to mind as we bask in this warm atmosphere.
Between December 12 and 15 Mercury socializes with the Sun and Venus easing us into the Holiday Season.  December 16 the Sun and innovative Uranus add an element of
excitement but we may need some down time to avoid a feeling of overwhelm.  Let’s not forget deep breathing and Rescue Remedy!

December 17/18  we want our wits about us as the New Moon (new beginnings) in Sagittarius encourages us to embody this inspiring sign’s essence.  The Symbol is “A sculptor at his work:  The ability to project his vision upon and give form to materials.”   The more we understand ourselves the more we can contribute to others.

What resources do we have to share?

December 19 Teacher Saturn returns home to his home to earthy Capricorn for the first time in 29 years and it is a BIG DEAL.  He’s all about our taking the insights gained during his time in Sagittarius and putting them to practical use.  We become ambitious to get organized and improve our circumstances and those of others. Flexibility is also in the works since this is a cardinal sign and automatically takes initiative when changes are unavoidable (which we are experiencing now).  December 21 the Sun meets up with him during the Winter Solstice, perhaps the most important turning point of the year.  It’s seen as a special time because  it promises the return of the Light and throughout history celebrations both sacred and profane have been observed.  How might we pay homage to this event?

December 22
Mercury turns direct but it’s a good idea if we off on making important decisions, etc. until next month when important information appears.

December 24
Venus changes gowns and her mood becomes more serious as she enters Capricorn and helps the Sun celebrate on December 25, Christmas Day.  This isn’t a recipe for hilarity but we experience their commitment to love and loyalty which extends a sense of security and  comfort which is welcome.  Saturn is also on hand, keeping things real.

December 31 is a date filed with symbolism and it may be bittersweet for us as visions from the past appear in our mind’s eye.  The Moon (our emotions) is in airy, bright Gemini and he ends up spending time with Mercury and Uranus so our thoughts my branch out in intriguing directions, setting the stage for a revitalized New Year. Isn’t it nice we’ll be able to compare notes as 2018 unfolds!!!

Happy New Year and Blessings!

THE SEARCH FOR A GLORIOUS LIFE

© 2017 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter November 2017

by Mario C. Veo

This is the story of a young man, and his search for “a glorious Life”
The story starts in a small mountain village, you know the kind, where everyone knows each other, you call all grownups ‘Uncle or Aunt’, and Life is peaceful … well, some may even say a little boring … what with all the healthy natural foods grown right there, and good, hard work following the seasons, there really isn’t much that can lead you to trouble, you know… [except boredom, perhaps]
You were all expected to provide for your family, and with a little left over to share with neighbors and the elderly – after all, they did the same for you, in your times of need, so it’s only proper that you should too … youngster would hunt for small game, or fish in the swift rivers, or even raise bees if they fancied … while grownups worked the fields, and some felled mighty trees for the local mill …
As I said, it was a peaceful Life … for most …
And so it happened that this particular young man decided that such a ‘simple Life’ was, after all, much too simple … and that he yearned – oh, so deeply yearned – for ‘adventure’ !
And his parents, who loved him very much, thought that if he really, really wanted to go … well then, they should not make him miserable and hold him back unduly …
The day of his departure swiftly came, and all the uncles and aunts gathered at the village square to see him off… many with small tokens and little gifts – a few dollars here and there “To buy you something sweets to remember us by…” or a healthy sandwich to have on the way “You never know what kind of food those outsiders may have… certainly not as good as ours…” and those that had too little to spare, well then, it was hugs and kisses, and loving embrace… [and maybe even a tear or two]
And so he left, to find ‘Life’ in the big world out there… first by train [that beast surely could move !], later by bus [oh, what sticky seats !], and finally he reached his destination – the Big City [oh, what a foul smell !]… but he didn’t care, for he had arrived , and finally he could start living !!!
He was young, he was eager, and strong to boot [never said he was lazy], and soon found a job – a little menial perhaps, but he was well liked, and soon was on track to be promoted…
Harder and harder he worked, saving every penny so he could buy a car [must have one of those, you know, town is too big to walk !], then more money to buy a house… no, a ‘condo’ [it’s more upscale, and who has time to mow the lawn and plant flowers – God forbid !]… then it was girls and dates, and oh the glorious sex !
Yes indeed, he had arrived – this was Life ! as he always wanted it to be !! of course there was so little time that he no longer called home every week, actually, not even every month… What could he say to them, they wouldn’t, couldn’t understand his Life – no longer walking barefoot on the river bank, or swimming butt naked in the creek… nope, he now wore Italian shoes and swam in a proper swimming pool… he had nothing left to tie him to his ‘rural’ [shudder !] background…
Now he found the ‘perfect girl’, and soon will be married… and when she asked about his parents he told
everyone that he was an orphan, raised by the State in different foster homes, until he was old enough to find his own way in the world…
Oh, how they admired him then, the orphan who made it rich ! the boy wonder! the man who forged a Life of wealth and success!… and how he gloried in this adulation, preening himself here and there … [he even overheard someone say that ‘men wanted to be him, and women wanted to sleep with him’… imagine that!]…… …….. ……..
And so he grew in wealth and power, buying up properties, industries, and even a bank or two … and if anyone opposed him, well then, they got what they deserved … [he was friends with some very influential people … and even some who could ‘convince’ others not to cross him … if you know what I mean]
His wife grew fat, his sons spoiled brats, and his many mistresses younger and younger… Ah, what a Life!
…….
Now he nears his final days, surrounded by lawyers and board of directors, jackals wanting to make sure they get their share before the old man dies [his sons too busy playing golf with the mayor, already got theirs]…
Do you think he made the right choice ? was this a Life worth living ? was he truly happy ?
Oh, one more thing, his parents died surrounded by loving friends …all bewildered that the son was not there…

PLANETS & POSSIBILITIES: A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF NOVEMBER 2017

© 2017 - Reprinted with permission from Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore newsletter November 2017

by Sally Shotwell

The month  begins with the Sun (our consciousness), Mercury (our thought processes) and Jupiter (expansion) in watery, formidable Scorpio.  It is ruled by Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, who delves deep into the mysteries hidden below the surface of our lives, from personal to global.  The emphasis now is on our emotional wellbeing as we are exposed to new information which can change our expectations do to the material that's dug up.   When we discover  the source of our  behavior which is surprising and not welcome, it's  a blessing  if we can remain connected to our meaningful relationships and activities.  Here's where we rely on our common sense and  ability to determine  what deserves our attention and focus.

Fortunately,   Benevolent Jupiter, now placed in this profound sign,  is cooperating with it's ruler Pluto who is in serious, responsible Capricorn.  Their influence promises to offer us valuable insights which can help us is our transformation but they are intense.  Here' where the other planetary cycles give us the assistance we need to keep our eye on the ball as change swirls around us.
November 3/4 the Full Moon (culmination) is in earthy, practical  Taurus, ruled by sensuous Venus, opposes the Sun in relentless Scorpio and  the issue of what we most value may come up  when our assets are involved.  The Sabian Symbol states;  "A young couple window-shopping:  The fascination of the youthful ego with the products of the culture."
What is our personal relationship to our material possessions as well as the social/cultural  contacts  which define our circumstances?  Are we concerned that they may be distracting us from  addressing meaningful issues in our life?
November 5 mental Mercury enters fiery, optimistic Sagittarius, directing us to expand our horizons and have fun in the process.  This is a good antidote to the wistfulness  we may feel as the encroaching darkness descends  ( Daylight Savings Time ends).    November 7  Venus enters Scorpio and she raises  the ante on our desire to develop intimacy in our close relationships.  This requires a true sharing of our inner most feelings and this is where the courage of the Scorpio Sun helps us to venture into unknown territory.  Are we inspired to deepen communication and reveal more of ourselves to promote mutual understanding?
November 11 this comes in handy as persistent Saturn, soon to leave Sagittarius, is sparked by electric Uranus in fiery Aries to seriously combine innovative vision with sound strategies to help us achieve our goals.  Fast forward to November 13 when Venus and Jupiter commingle and promote a generous attitude and share their inclination towards good fortune . Mercury in Sagittarius and Neptune in otherworldly Pisces are not getting along but  let's not allow their problem keep us from basking in the blessings the Goddess of Love who expects us  enjoy  each other.   The  16 she connects with Neptune and compassion is the name of the game.  Are we nurturing ourselves and others?
November 18 the New Moon (new beginnings) in resourceful Scorpio telegraphs that the power of regeneration is available to us if we are resourceful.  This requires diligence on our part to resist the superfluous diversions which bombard us.  The Symbol states:  "A military band marches noisily on through the city streets.  The aggressive gratification of cultural values."  The key word here is "aggressive" which connotes an ego orientation which we can do without.
November 19 presents us with an opportunity to detach as Pluto irritates Mars which means a power play is probably in the works.  The 21st our spirits are lifted when Venus and Pluto, now in a good mood,  support each other as passionate feelings surface and the Sun slips into adventurous Sagittarius.   The ruler of this sign is Magnificent Jupiter and  its symbol is the centaur whose bow and arrow are aimed at the sky with its unlimited possibilities.  We're  gearing up for the holiday season and this optimism is welcome!
November 22 Neptune, in watery, transcendant  Pisces is moving forward, after spending months taking us on an inner voyage, guiding us to redirect our subliminal  dreams  to those we can manifest  while recognizing our  spiritual yearning.    Jupiter is joining forces with him so we may feel particularly idealistic as we gather with others to celebrate Thanksgiving the 23'd.
November 25 Mercury happily consults with unpredictable Uranus in fiery Aries and they come up with unexpected avenues for us to pursue.  This is promising since the 27th the Messenger of the Gods consults with stable Saturn to vet any decisions we make and leads to success due to the beneficial melding of tradition with inspiration.  This bodes well for us as we branch out and  keep an open mind to all the options  available to us!
Happy Thanksgiving and Blessings!
